Simon Barwick. Artist.

My paternal grandmother used to call me ‘Why Si’ because of my habit of questioning everything around me. I have never lost that curiosity and my art is united by a need to know how to imbue shapes and patterns with meaning.

My first SLR camera helped me to explore texture and colour, focus and tone. Seeing everyday objects differently, I still use my camera as a tool to abstract the subject. These images become the inspiration for a number of my paintings.

I bought a Zenith EM when I was 14 years old and I’ve been hooked on photography ever since

I’ve painted and drawn since I was a teenager but after building my own art studio I’ve been inspired

After studying Art A-Level in the UK, I chose to pursue a degree in Literature & Philosophy over Art School, developing my own language to express how I see the world.

I paint so that I can share my feelings and perspectives, and I love talking with people about art and what it means to them.

I’m English and live in Australia. My wife Sophie is my best friend and we are the guardians of two cats who are twin sisters - Gin and Tonic.
